This is kind of complicated to explain, so I shall try my best.

It’s easiest to do this on Firefox or Safari- for Safari, you’ll need to turn the developer’s option on (by going to preferences, then advanced options, then checking the box at the bottom). For Firefox, you need to download firebug.

Go on to ‘Edit my Profile’ and right-click on the gender field, and select ‘Inspect Element’.

A new window will open with a bunch of coding. Right-click on the line that is highlighted, and select ‘Edit as html’. 

I had female selected on my facebook, so I then copied the ‘<option value=”2”>Male</option>’ section of the code, and pasted it straight after itself.

In this new pasted section, change the ‘2’ to a ‘0’, and change ‘Male’ to whatever you want (it doesn’t matter what you change it to because it will just come up as Select Gender’).

After this, exit the Inspect Element window, select this new gender field, and save the profile changes. It should come up with ‘Select gender’, and facebook will use they/their etc as pronouns.

Any problems, don’t hesitate to ask.

I took great advantage in this, very happy!

An Analysis of WALL•E from a Queer Perspective (A criticism of our society, the media, and the general contentment with the current state of affairs)

Total Summary: Films (and the world at large) are incredibly heteronormative, cisnormative, and gender reinforcing. We make assumptions about characters’ sex, gender, sexual interest and orientation, romantic interest and orientation without realising it, and we are perfectly content doing so. We should probably change that, or at least educate kids about what the media doesn’t show them.

The main characters in WALL•E, Wall•E and Eve, are robots. Service robots to be precise.
Robots don’t have a sex (although secondary characteristics may be included in the design), and they wouldn’t have a gender unless they were programmed to have one. Service robots presumably would not be programmed with a gender, because they would have limited to no contact with humans, so their lack of gender wouldn’t perturb or confuse anybody.
Wall•E and Eve don’t have sex characteristics or a gender identity as far as we know. And yet, as soon as we meet the characters, we assign them a sex and a gender. (We assume they’re cissexual as well.)
The only proof we have to back up our assumptions are assorted beeps and tones that the robots use to communicate. Wall•E has low tones and Eve uses higher pitched tones.
When we discover that Wall•E forms an interest in Eve, we automatically register it as a romantic interest. After all, two entities with (presumably) opposite genders (and therefore sexes, says the cis-normative and cissexist mind) simply MUST have romantic feelings for each other!

IN SUMMARY: We assign two sexless, genderless entities a gender (and the ‘corresponding’ sex). We assume that the entities are cissexual. We happily watch two robots form a heterosexual romantic relationship. And we do all of that without even thinking.

I understand that WALL•E is a children’s film and it’s not intended to be malicious. In fact, it sends a good message to young’uns (and older’uns) about taking care of the Earth.
But the fact is, children learn from the stimulation they are given. If children are brought up surrounded and bombarded by heteronormative, cisnormative, and gender enforcing films, songs, books, toys, and role models, they’re going to accept those beliefs as the ultimate truth.
I’m not saying that it’s bad to take your kid to the movies, or expose them to the rest of the world. I’m just saying that we should educate our children about everything that the media neglects to mention.

Anonymous asked: could you please explain the difference between genderqueer and agender?

I’m still trying to learn about this topic,

but I believe that genderqueer is a catch-all/umbrella term to cover all non-binary genders and agender is someone who does not identify with any gender at all.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, anyone.

I have a store on Zazzle.com at which I’m selling a bunch of LGBTQIA merchandise. I have a few other things too — shirts that say MISANDRY FOR LIFE, shirts that say I HATE EVERYONE (I made those ones ages ago thinking they were funny, I would take them down now but people have actually bought them, so…), etc. But mostly it is pride stuff.
