New Asexual Documentary

I just finished a film called “not Broken Not Alone” which follows the asexual community as they prepare/participate in WorldPride this past summer.

I’m eager to get the film out to festivals worldwide in an effort to increase both visibility but also the broader conversation that I think asexuality brings up.  I started a kickstarter cammpaign to raise money for this goal

It would be really appreciated if anyone could help get the word out about this project- there are tons of cool rewards for donating, including a streaming copy of the film, and more! and some cake karma :D

Powerpoint on asexuality.

Hey, just wanted to mention that it looks like six years ago Fox news had a perfectly civil discussion on asexuality. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmXXgRvotGM) This “Red Eye” is something of a satire show that runs late at night.

Doesn’t make it any less offensive and terrible, especially because it shows on the Fox “News” website and with their logo. But something to mention.

Yeah, I’ve been informed it’s satire, but I’m glad you agree that it doesn’t excuse it. Satire isn’t some excuse you can hide behind. It was still really low and malicious and some people were triggered.

It especially doesn’t help since a majority of people haven’t even heard of asexuality and people tend to stick with their first impression of what they get of something that is foreign to them. And then they don’t even remember the context of how they heard it (source amnesia). It also doesn’t help that what they were saying is basically what people think anyway when they hear about it, so it can’t really be effective satire (if it truly is that, which, while it might have been a satire show, I’m of the opinion that that segment was too relentless and brutal) when most people would be inclined to agree with it at face value.

Quick note, the interview in this link isn’t perfect at all, of course, especially since they equate it to a lack of libido and doesn’t go into much detail at all really, but they are generally… decent. Respectful, at least.

Thank you very much for sharing this! Very much appreciated!

Guys, just adding something to the relationship subject, remember remember to always put yourself first if you’re in a relationship with a sexual person. A lot of them are going to say many very wrong things, often not meaning to hurt you. And if you love them, your mind is going to believe a lot of that even if you really know it’s nonsense. A few years ago I entered a relationship as a pretty confident non-repulsed ace and 3 years later ended it repulsed/terrified of sex. He still doesn’t know that what he did was mental abuse. I’m not trying to scare any of you away from such relationships, I know many of them work out wonderfully and I honestly wish you best of luck there! It’s just a little reminder to watch your step there, try to make things clear from the start in whichever way works for both of you, but please don’t ignore the subject and just hope it works out in the end, I’ve been there and I don’t want any of you going through this, okay? Again, best of luck! <3

(TW: invalidation, sexism, ignorance, Fox News basically) Oh dear, Fox News has found out about us

nextstepcake:

It’s about what I would expect from then.

Added TW. They managed a lot for such a short clip.

I was just scrolling down from a post that made me smile and I don’t think I have ever felt a smile disappear so quickly when I read that.

If you are sensitive to this, I wouldn’t recommend watching, you guys, just whip out your bingo cards and black it out, basically.

Not only do they mock it but they manage to make tons of sexist comments to boot. Not to mention the usual spew of ignorance like too many new labels, they aren’t oppressed/discriminated against, they’re boring, *~special snowflakes*~, etc.

Sex, marriage, and childrearing aren’t for everyone, so no one should pressure you into doing any of them if you don’t want to! Do what is best for you.
