Anonymous asked: What is arousal? Does arousal have to be sexual? Can one experience sensual arousal and still be asexual?

(Made rebloggable by request.)

Arousal is simply a physiological response to certain stimulus. Both the arousal and the stimulus can be either physical or mental or both.

There can be different kinds of arousal, too, so it’s not always sexual. So I think it can be totally possible to experience sensual arousal, whatever that means to you.

And yes, sensual activities have nothing to do with sexual attraction, so you can experience it and be asexual. You can even experience sexual arousal and still be asexual.

Arousal does not have anything to do with attraction, really. It can, but not always. It can also be a conscious or unconscious reaction, possibly even both at the same time in certain situations.
